Almira Ames, born in Andover, Mass. in 1800, married John Farnham in 1825. She was widowed in 1839 and was left with 5 children. In 1846 the family moved to Lowell, Mass. where her children worked in the mills and Almira Farnham took in boarders. In 1855 Farnham moved to Minnesota, southwest of Red Wing, to homestead with several members of the family.
